Reverent…moving…and beautiful…The Dallas Opera is honored to present this dramatic song cycle and film composed by Shawn Okpebholo with poetry by Marcus Amaker. Through music, still photography and film, “Unknown” honors the lives of those who were lost in the service of their country. The ideas of war, honor, and memory are seen through the eyes of soldiers, family members, and tomb guards—all of them connected through their mutual service and sacrifice. 20 minutes in length.

Featuring baritones Michael Mayes and Schyler Vargas and mezzo-soprano Taylor Raven, accompanied by members of the Inscape Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Robert Wood, the Founder and Artistic Director of UrbanArias.
Unknown was commissioned by UrbanArias, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Opera Colorado, The Dallas Opera, Birmingham Opera, and Stephen E. and Dorothy P. Bird, and was premiered at the Barns at Wolf Trap on October 5, 2021.
